Chris Dittmann Racing begins its F3 Cup season with high hopes, as Donington Park hosts this weekend’s opener (April 22-23). An all-new three-driver line-up heads to Leicestershire as the team looks to reclaim the championship title it won in 2015. The series races three times across the weekend, once on Saturday before two more contests on Sunday. Cian Carey was named Motorsport Ireland’s ‘Young driver of the year’ in 2016 and steps up from a championship-winning campaign in Boss Ireland. Chris Dittmann Racing finalised its new-look F3 Cup line-up with the signing of championship newcomer Phillip Jeans for the 2017 season. Norfolk-based Jeans will pilot a Mercedes-powered Dallara F312 in the single-seater series, joining up-and-coming Irishman Cian Carey and Monoposto race-winner Peter Venn at the Tewkesbury squad. The former motorcycle racer returns to car racing for the first time since 2012, when he contested four rounds of the Radical Masters. Chris Dittmann Racing has signed 2011 Monoposto champion Peter Venn for the 2017 season of F3 Cup. Venn will partner the up-and-coming Cian Carey in a new look three-car CDR team in the championship, with the third driver to be announced soon. Venn will pilot the Mercedes-powered Dallara F308/11 previously driven by Stuart Wiltshire in the championship, which took him to second in the standings in 2015 including a win at Spa. Chris Dittmann Racing (CDR) has signed Irish racing driver Cian Carey for the 2017 F3 Cup championship. The Tewkesbury-based outfit will prepare and run Carey’s Dallara F311 machine which is powered by a VW engine. In addition to running the car and providing engineering support, Carey will also have access to CDR’s superb driver coaching services, allowing him to benefit from the advice of team principal and 2012 F3 Cup Champion Chris Dittmann and other experts. Chris Dittmann Racing’s 2016 season came to a close at Snetterton with the final rounds of F3 Cup. The team visited still in with a chance of a double championship win, Stuart Wiltshire third in the drivers’ championship and the team third in the teams’. Fourth in the damp opener kept him in the hunt, while team-mate Tony Bishop slipped to 10th late on. In the second, neither Wiltshire or Bishop could make improvements on their starting slots, running ninth and 10th for much of it. The reigning teams’ champion lies third in the standings in its quest to retain the title, with three races pencilled for the Norfolk visit. Silverstone hosted the penultimate weekend of F3 Cup, and an impressive performance from Stuart Wiltshire puts him and CDR in pole position to wrap up a double third place in the championships. He and team-mate Tony Bishop have combined to secure third in the 2016 teams’ standings. Stuart Wiltshire began the weekend with a strong drive to second place in the first of the weekend’s two races to get his title bid back on track. Team-mate Tony Bishop, who qualified on the front row for both races, slipped to fifth on the opening lap before claiming fourth position two laps from the end. F3 Cup returns to action at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this weekend (August 27-28) with Stuart Wiltshire and Tony Bishop looking to return to form. Bishop impressed around the shorter layout, the Indy, earlier in the season when two potential race wins were instead non-finishes. In difficult conditions last time out at Oulton Park, Bishop again showed front-running pace but fortune failed to go his way.
