Silverstone hosted the penultimate weekend of F3 Cup, and an impressive performance from Stuart Wiltshire puts him and CDR in pole position to wrap up a double third place in the championships. He and team-mate Tony Bishop have combined to secure third in the 2016 teams’ standings.
Wiltshire overcame a broken foot suffered earlier in the week to notch a brace of fourth places to eke out a small cushion in the third spot in the championship table. The 2015 championship runner-up was engaged in a close battle during the frantic opener, and he worked his way towards the top four in race two late on.
Bishop out-qualified Wiltshire for both races, twice eighth to Wiltshire’s ninth. He claimed eighth position in race one before contact from behind forced him into retirement in race two. The Londoner lies 10th in the standings ahead of the three-race final round at Snetterton in October.
Chris Dittmann, team principal, said: “Stuart performed bravely all weekend. To come away with two fourths and actually stretch his lead in third in the championship is probably more than even he was expected. It bodes well for Snetterton, where he got his first-ever podium last year.
“Tony hasn’t had much luck this season, he’ll be looking for a good end to the year next month to set him up for 2017.”
