Jeremy Wahome re-signs for 2017 British F3

Kenyan racer Jeremy Wahome will contest his second season of the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Chris Dittmann Racing in 2017, with podiums the target.

Wahome made his European racing debut with the Tewkesbury-based team last season, acclimatising to the UK circuits under CDR’s tutelage.

In a rapidly improving year the 18-year-old scored a best-placed finish of ninth on the demanding Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, and wrapped up the season with a 10th at Donington Park.

His previous single-seater experience had been limited to Formula BMW Asia Cup.

His team-mates for 2017 are yet to be announced.

The teenager, who lives in Cheltenham, said: “Racing for Chris Dittmann Racing was great last year, we really gelled together and they taught me a lot. It was a big step up going from karting in Kenya to the European circuits for the first time. It’s a fun environment and we work well. The continuity is good too, that will help us start from where we left off last year. Being so close to where I live means I can use the new simulator when I need to and can visit the factory, at the same focusing on my A-levels.

“Hopefully we can pick from where we left off last year, inside the top 10 but I know the tracks now and the car so I’m confident we can move up consistently. It’s only my second season in Europe but I’m targeting the top five and then podiums.”

Team manager Chris Dittmann is optimistic Wahome will realise those ambitions in 2017: “Jeremy showed great pace during last season and could have had some top six-finishes but for some small mistakes. Consistency showed at the end of the season and now it’s matching those two together.

He’s been working hard in the simulator and we’ve been testing already so I’m confident he will be breaking the top six early in the new season.”
