- F3 Cup runner-up remains with Chris Dittmann Racing
- 21-year-old confirmed for season opener at Brands Hatch
- Successful pairing aim to extend deal to cover full 2021 season
Chris Dittmann Racing will continue its successful association with Alex Fores into 2021, as the 21-year-old steps up to the BRDC British F3 Championship.
Fores almost claimed last year’s F3 Cup title with the Tewkesbury-based team, and competed in BRDC British F3 rounds at Donington Park and Snetterton. He has returned to the wheel of the Tatuus-Mountune car in pre-season testing ahead of the opening round of the 2021 campaign at Brands Hatch on 22/23 May.
At present the arrangement covers the opening rounds in Kent, though both parties are hoping to extend the relationship to include the full season.
The British driver scored four wins from 10 races in F3 Cup last year, and was on the podium eight times, just missing out on the overall crown by 13 points. He also secured four pole positions and five fastest laps.
Prior to his F3 Cup campaign, Fores had raced in the Junior Saloon Car Championship in 2014 and ‘15, and was fourth overall in the Monoposto 1800 category in 2016.
A first taste of F3 machinery came in the 2017 Monoposto Championship, before an appearance in that year’s Walter Hayes Trophy for Formula Fords.
Completing his A-Levels in 2018, Fores found time for half a season of Monoposto F3 before a full-time campaign the following year which almost saw him crowned champion, but for a car problem in the final race of the year.
The relationship with Chris Dittmann Racing began after that event at Brands Hatch, and the pair teamed up for the 2020 F3 Cup campaign, which he led on several occasions. CDR also handed him his first British F3 opportunity, where he demonstrated strong pace despite limited experience of the car, with a top-10 qualifying result in treacherous conditions at Snetterton a demonstration of his speed and car control.
Fores commented: “I’m really looking forward to the Brands Hatch BRDC British F3 weekend with Chris Dittmann Racing, and I can’t wait to get going. My relationship with the team goes back to the end of 2019 and last year was really strong, so I’m hoping that can continue if I’m fortunate enough to secure funding for the full season.
“Once again I’m so grateful to Dave Bromfield at Bromfield Precision Engineering, who has stepped in to make this happen for me. His business and involvement has made my whole motorsport journey from the age of 14 up until this point possible. He was so encouraged with my pre-season testing that we decided we just had to get on the grid for Brands Hatch, he’s pushed so hard for me and I’m eternally grateful.”
Team Principal Chris Dittmann said: “We’re very pleased to continue our relationship with Alex into the start of the BRDC British F3 season. Having worked closely with him over the past year, we know he’ll do a great job in the British F3 car and we’re hoping that he’s able to find the budget required to see out the season with us. He really deserves a serious opportunity in this championship and we have no doubt he’ll continue to show the speed he demonstrated on numerous occasions last year.
