Chris Dittmann Racing made a point-scoring return to the GB3 Championship at the weekend (August 2-3), with debutants Nicolas Stati and Rodrigo Gonzalez.
Heading to Silverstone for the first time, 16-year-old Australian Nicolas and Rodrigo, 19, had a steep learning curve to overcome. The latter had managed a day of testing in the car at Anglesey, but for the former, Thursday’s test sessions were his first laps of the Tatuus MSV GB3-025.
With every session offering an opportunity to learn and improve, both drivers did well to progress. After a solid qualifying performance, the start of race one was delayed but when the lights went out, they drove well, with Nicolas gaining four places on the opening lap and Rodrigo three. Both dropped back as other racers who are familiar with the car came through, but they set consistent lap times with clean runs to the flag.
Starting race two from the twelfth row, the pair once again put in sensible drives, picking off their rivals when the opportunity, or misfortune, presented itself, to finish in points paying places. Consistent runs in the final contest ensured they brought the cars home to the finish, with Rodrigo adding yet another point to his weekend tally.
Chris Dittmann Racing will quickly return to track action, as the F4 British Championship heads to Knockhill in Scotland, over the weekend of August 15-17.
Chris Dittmann, Team Principal
“Considering both drivers came into the weekend with limited running in the car, and having never driven the circuit before, they’ve done well. It’s very difficult to come into a competitive championship like GB3 mid-season, against drivers who have been racing these cars all year, and make an impression. When you consider they both have limited racing experience, I think they can be proud of their efforts. We finished three races without accident damage and with some points on the board, so it’s been a decent weekend.”
