Chris Dittmann Racing signs Gino Ussi

Chris Dittmann Racing has expanded its F3 Cup squad with the signing of championship returnee Gino Ussi.

The South African-born Italian last contested F3 Cup in 2012, when he finished third behind his new team boss Chris Dittmann.

He will pilot a Mercedes-powered Dallara F312.

His campaign will be in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF), raising awareness for the charity throughout the remaining rounds of this season.

Chris Dittmann, team owner, said: “I’m really pleased to have Gino on board for this season. Having raced against him I know he’s quick, I’m confident we’ll soon get him back up to that speed again. Joining a series a round later than others will be a challenge, but he knows the circuits and has a lot of experience to call on.

“From a team perspective it give us a great opportunity in the Teams’ Championship – we now have four chances to pick up good points to regain our title.”

Gino said: “I’m looking forward to doing F3 Cup after a four-year lay-off from racing. CDR is a crack outfit and one of the most professional on the grid so I’m delighted to be joining Chris and the team. He was a quick driver and that’s a real benefit for me, his experience will be invaluable in getting me back up to speed again as the season progresses. That’s my main aim and we’ll see where that takes us.
