Chris Dittmann Racing consolidates lead in British F4 Challenge Cup with Snetterton podium

Chris Dittmann Racing scored its third overall podium of the season in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, while now holding the top three positions in the Challenge Cup after a good weekend at Snetterton (23-25 May).

Tommy Harfield and Charlie Edge were once again joined by F1 Academy racer Alba Larsen – sporting a new livery – with all three able to enjoy test sessions on Wednesday, while Charlie would have to miss Friday’s practice and Tommy was absent from practice one as both had exams to sit.

After the Saturday morning qualifying, held in greasy conditions, Tommy would line up seventh on the grid for race one. He suffered lap one contact and fell to 22nd, before making a strong recovery drive, crossing the line 11th with some good racecraft, while Alba and Charlie finished fourth and fifth best rookies respectively.

Sunday morning’s reverse grid race was pushed back from its planned start, but when the lights went out an hour later, Tommy was on the attack, taking second with a good start. He set a string of three fastest laps in a row, putting the leader under continued pressure, but couldn’t find a clean way past, taking a good podium finish, just 0.165 off top spot. Behind, Charlie and Alba pushed on but faded slightly in the closing stages, taking fourth and eighth of the Rookies.

In the final race, shown live on ITV4 in the UK and worldwide via YouTube, Charlie had an eventful time, taking contact at turn three which sent him into a spin but recovering well to finish 18th, two places behind Alba. Tommy showed his abilities once again, passing five cars to take the flag fifth and sweeping all three Challenge Cup victories across the weekend.

That form means he regained the lead of the standings from Charlie, with just 11 points separating the teammates as they battle to become the first title holder in the new for 2025 title.

The team’s focus is now on rounds 10, 11, and 12 of Wera Tools British F4, which take place at the high-speed and action-packed Thruxton in Hampshire, over the weekend of 6-8 June.

Chris Dittmann, Team Principal

“We had a very good end to the weekend, especially with Tommy. We didn’t quite get it together in qualifying, which put us a little bit on the back foot, and then to be taken out in race one was disappointing. To come back on Sunday with the P2 and fastest lap and then go from P10 to P5 in the last race was good. We have been strong pace-wise, and especially on the old tyres in the last race.

“Alba and Charlie also had a solid weekends. They’re definitely getting in the mix with the other drivers and learning all the time. Their race-craft has been improving, and the pace has been strong throughout the weekend, and we have to remember it’s a big learning curve for those two. We’re looking forward to making the next step at Thruxton and seeing if we can start taking the fight to the top drivers consistently.”
