Chris Dittmann Racing celebrated its second overall victory in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, as Tommy Harfield made a superb move for the lead at Silverstone at the weekend (19–21 September).
There was further delight for the team as Alba Larsen scored her maiden Rookie Cup podium and a season-best qualifying performance for fellow Rookie Charlie Edge, underlining the progress of all three drivers.
There were test sessions on Thursday before Friday’s practices, which went well for the team as Tommy went fastest in FP2, despite being unable to take part on Thursday, with Charlie and Alba also setting strong lap times.
In qualifying on Saturday morning, a few sprinkles of rain failed to slow the drivers as Tommy finished second quickest, an agonising 0.002s from pole, before having his time deleted and dropping to P4. However, he would start race one on pole thanks to his second-fastest time, while Charlie delivered his best session to date in 14th and fourth of the Rookies, with Alba classified 17th.
On the opening lap of race one, Tommy fell to second position and, despite keeping pressure on the leader throughout, had to settle for his sixth podium finish of the campaign. Alba fought her way forward, moving into 14th overall and challenging for the final Rookie Cup podium place. A late move secured her first silverware, classified second after post-race penalties, while Charlie recovered from contact to finish 17th and sixth of the Rookies.
In race two on Sunday morning, Tommy gained two places on the first lap to run seventh, with Charlie third of the Rookies, but Alba slipped back. Tommy climbed to sixth before suffering a puncture that required a pit stop as the Safety Car was deployed. On the restart, Charlie lost time avoiding a car with front wing damage and then picked up a puncture himself. Tommy charged back through the field to finish 12th, with Alba 14th and Charlie 21st.
In the final race of the weekend, Tommy made another strong start, moving into third and then second, before quickly catching the leader. After a Safety Car interruption, he made a decisive move into Brooklands to take the lead, just before Alba suffered a puncture and retired on track, and Charlie was forced into the pits for a new front wing. With just over four minutes remaining after the restart, Tommy drove superbly to take his second victory in as many race weekends, further strengthening his position in the standings.
Chris Dittmann Racing will return for the season finale of the Wera Tools British F4 Championship at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in Kent on 3–5 October.
Chris Dittmann, Team Principal
“To come away from Silverstone with another overall victory is a fantastic achievement for the team. Tommy once again showed his class with outstanding race craft and decisive moves that proved the difference. Alba’s first Rookie Cup podium was richly deserved, reflecting how far she has come in her debut season, and Charlie’s qualifying performance highlighted the progress he is continuing to make. It was a weekend that underlines the strength of all three drivers, and the whole team can be proud of these results as we head into the season finale at Brands Hatch.”
