CDR looks to build on double F3 Cup win

Following two wins last time out at Snetterton, CDR returns to F3 Cup action for rounds seven, eight and nine at Silverstone this weekend looking to continue its race-winning momentum.

Team principal Chris Dittmann made an unexpected return to the cockpit three weeks ago and took an impressive two victories and lap record from three races. He’s back on the pit wall this weekend at the home of the British Grand Prix, marshalling his three racers Cian Carey, Phillip Jeans and Gino Ussi. Peter Venn is unable to compete due to work commitments.

Irishman Carey heads to the Silverstone National circuit best-placed in the standings in fourth. His debut season of Formula 3 has been promising, showing front-running and lap record pace but his maiden race win and podium somehow still eludes him.

South African Ussi enjoyed a successful return to F3 Cup at Snetterton, his first race event since 2013. He spent the whole weekend getting quicker and quicker, deservedly making it three CDR racers in the top six in the weekend’s final encounter. With more laps under his belt he can be expected to be back among the front-runners in his Nelson Mandela Children’s Foundation-liveried Dallara when the lights go out in Northamptonshire.

Back in action will be Phillip Jeans, whose absence at the last round allowed Dittmann’s race-winning comeback. He lies 16th having missed those three races, but will be gaining more mileage and points on the fast Silverstone National configuration. The former ‘bike racer’s four-wheeled career is in its fledgling days, but he’s shown strong improvements with every session.

The absent Venn is tied for ninth in the table, having been regularly in and among the top 10 all season.

Dittmann said: “Silverstone is a good place to race F3 cars and I’m hoping for more good results from the three guys. We know we have the pace to be at the front and I’m sure we’ll be up there this weekend.

“When you’re still building experience Silverstone is great because it breeds confidence, and with F3 cars that’s really important. Hopefully that will bring us more wins, they’re all in with a shout.

“The wins at Snetterton made up ground in the Teams’ Championship, which was important for us. With another weekend like that we’ll hopefully be able to bridge the gap to the top and put some distance back to the team in third.”
