CDR holds second in F3 Cup standings

Chris Dittmann Racing began the second half of the F3 Cup season with a consistent showing at Silverstone on the Grand Prix circuit for rounds 10 and 11.

Entering the weekend in second place in the Teams’ standings, the trio of Peter Venn, Gino Ussi and Phillip Jeans ensured the Tewkesbury-based squad maintained its runners-up spot with just three events left of the season.

Ussi claimed the best result of the weekend, scoring seventh in race two having started in 13th place. He was up to eighth on the opening lap and was promoted one place when George Line was given a 10-second penalty for a false start. Ussi had earlier finished 11th in the opener, another excellent first lap had moved him into the top 10 but he slipped to 11th by the flag.

Venn came away from the home of the British Grand Prix with a 13th and 10th, which moved him to 12th in the championship standings. Having qualified on the seventh row alongside team-mate Ussi in both, he ensured he moved into the top 10 in the second by holding off race-long pressure from behind – and his pace was quick enough to capitalise on the penalty handed to Tony Bishop for exceeding track limits.

Phillip Jeans, as he has done all through this debut season, improved with every lap to match those around him on the fast and challenging circuit. He came away with placings of 17th and 16th. The ex-bike racer moved to 18th place in the points ahead of the next rounds at Snetterton in August.

Cian Carey was unable to make the grid due to his engine not being ready in time having blown at Spa the weekend before.

Team principal Chris Dittmann said: “It was a good clean weekend for us, with six finishes and that’s the most important thing. The teams’ championship is looking close, so the guys did well to keep scoring vital points.

“With three events to go it’s all to play for, and there are some tricky circuits to come. It’s a tall order to retake the title so the focus is on keeping second.

“This weekend should give them confidence going into Snetterton, another fast and flowing circuit. The job between now and then is to get us back up to four cars, though, and I’m confident we’ll be back to full strength with Cian back on the grid.”

CDR and F3 Cup heads to Snetterton on August 12-13.
