More points for CDR BRDC F3 team at legendary Spa Francorchamps

Chris Dittmann Racing (CDR) claimed a solid points haul as the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship visited the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium last weekend (Friday 8 – Saturday 9 July).

This was a first competitive visit to the famous Belgian Grand Prix venue for all three of CDR’s drivers, but Indian Krishnaraaj Mahadik put his car 16th on the grid for the first of the weekend’s three races ahead of American team-mate Quinan Lall in 17th and Kenyan Jeremy Wahome in 18th. The circuit’s long Kemmel Straight offers the chance to gain almost two seconds thanks to the slipstream of other drivers but the opportunity failed to materialise for the trio, meaning the times were not representative of their true pace.

From here, all three CDR drivers set about improving their position in the opening contest, with Wahome building on his promising Silverstone top-10 showing to rise to 12th position, whilst Mahadik rose up the order to finish 14th. The opening race was curtailed after Akhil Rabindra collided with Lall, sending the young American barrel rolling into a dramatic retirement. It had been a fighting drive from Lall until then, having scythed through impressively to seventh before the big collision, which denied him a potential front-row starting slot for race two.

Following a medical check up, Lall was bravely back in the car for Saturday’s two races after the team had worked through the night to get the heavily damaged car repaired. Having made the grid with moments to spare, he finished 16th before rising up the order further to 13th in the finale.

Mahadik was strong on Saturday too, claiming a 12th and a 15th, whilst Wahome brought the car home in 17th and 18th in the final two races of the event. This means that Wahome and Mahadik claimed points in all three of the weekend’s races, whilst Lall was denied following suit only by his race one misfortune.

Team Principal Chris Dittmann commented: “All three drivers acquitted themselves fantastically on a notoriously difficult circuit and I’m delighted to come away from the weekend with a near clean sweep of points-scoring finishes.

“Quinlan was desperately unlucky to be involved in a big accident on Friday but I was very impressed by the manner in which he got on with the rest of the weekend. The guys did a fantastic job to get the car ready for him, it was a big ask but they were absolutely brilliant. I can’t congratulate and thank them enough for that, and Quinlan was full of praise for them too.

“Jeremy and Krish are making real progress too, and I’m confident that all three will be in a good position to challenge for more points when we return to Snetterton in August.”

CDR’s young chargers will return to British F3 Championship action at Snetterton on 6-7 August for another triple-header on the Norfolk venue’s full 300 circuit.
