Double podium in F3 Cup opener

Chris Dittmann Racing returned to F3 Cup action with a brace of podiums for drivers Stuart Wiltshire, Tony Bishop and team newcomer Malcolm Scott at Donington Park. The trio combined to leave the Tewkesbury-based reigning champions in second place in the F3 Cup Teams’ Championship.
Wiltshire picked up where he left off 2015 – when he finished runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship – by collecting a battling podium in the opening race of the three-event weekend.
Team-mate Bishop then ensured CDR were represented on each of the first two podiums of 2016, also claiming third place in race two. That result followed sixth in race one for Bishop, having been running as high as second until falling foul of traffic. Wiltshire could only manage eighth in race two, before returning to the front in race three, despite almost stalling off the line. He couldn’t quite add a second podium finish, instead scoring fourth to leave Donington in third place in the standings. Bishop’s seventh place in race three moved him into fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
Team debutant Malcolm Scott left Donington Park with a ninth and sixth, either side of a non-start in race two.
Chris Dittmann, team principal, said: “It was good to get the F3 Cup season underway with a few podiums. After last season we’re maybe a little disappointed it wasn’t a bit more as we had the pace to be up the front.
“Malcolm didn’t quite have the luck but his two finishes on the edge of the top six were both good. It was only his second round since stepping up to the championship, so the promise is definitely there.
“We’ve come away second in the standings though and both Tony and Stuart are right up there already. To have both on the podium in different races is definitely a positive as it gives them both confidence to take into the next round in a few weeks’ time at Brands Hatch.
